    The Babimost commune is located in the eastern part of  Lubuskie Province and covers the area of 92.75 km2. It is surrounded with Sulechów, Kargowa, Siedlec, Zb±szynek, Zb±szyń and Szczaniec communes. 
Babimost is the administrative centre of the commune and the seat of the local government.
KoziołThe population of the commune is 6,348 people, with 4,009 living in the very town. The first mention of the village of Babimost can be found in the documents dated back to the year 1257. I n 1329 the town was ruled by Żagań Dukes and in 1332 it was incorporated by the King Władysław Łokietek into the reunited kingdom of Poland. In 1397 the King WŁadysław Jagiełło granted the village the municipal rights in accordance with the Magdeburg Law.
In 1793 the Babimost Region was incorporated into Prussia It regained independence only in 1945.
Under the Prussian and German occupation the Babimost Region was the cradle of the Polish culture in the western lands of Poland.
In 1997 the town celebrates the 600th anniversary of its existence.
The well developed infrastructure, including the network of nation-wide and local surfaced roads, gas grid covering the entire area of the commune and the automatic telephone network create the attractive living conditions for the population and favourable conditions for the economic growth of the region. The territory of the commune is cut across by important transport routes: the main roads from Zielona Góra to Poznań and the electrified railway line between Zielona Góra and Zb±szynek. The town of Babimost is located at 25 kilometres' distance of from ¦wiecko - Poznań international route no.2.
Port LotniczyThere is an airport 6 kilometres away from Babimost The vicinity of both an important railway junction in Zb±szynek and the planned road junction at the intersection of A-2 and A-3 motorways allow to foresee an important future role of the airport as a goods transport centre.
The commune is typically rural in character. The agriculture is well developed there with the prevalence of individual farming The unpolluted natural environment provides favourable conditions for the production of the highest quality crops. Due to the lack of food processing infrastructure the agriculture has a considerable growth potential both with regard to crop and animal breeding.
A large part of the commune area is covered with vast forest complexes. The forests are abundant in mushrooms and game species. The "Laski" forest reserve 4343 ha large is a tourist attraction worth visiting. Tree-stands in the reserve are 80160 years old.
Over 300 economic entities have been registered in the commune. These are mainly retail shops and numerous craftsmen's shops rendering almost full range of services. There are no big factories in the town and the commune. Small plants manufacturing clothes, shoes and furniture prevail. The town and its values are highly appreciated by its inhabitants. These values include the specific climatic conditions due to the vicinity of lakes and forests. Many tourists are attracted by the unpolluted waters and air of this region. Apart from the above attractions the town of Babimost has a significant growth potential. There are many building plots equipped with necessary utilities suitable for the construction of small and big manufacturing plants and warehouses as well as single family houses. Moreover, the commune has land and buildings which can be adapted for industrial as well as recreational purposes, for instance the land around Wojnowskie Lake is suitable for golf courses.
